Data Backup | Disaster Recovery

What is this Service?

RedRock’s Backup and Disaster Recovery Service (BDR) relieves your organization from the headaches of server backup.  Toss the tapes, don’t worry about checking whether the backup job failed on a daily basis and no longer concern yourself with offsite backup tape storage and the risk of data loss.

For a low monthly fee, we provide a network attached backup appliance (NAB) with offsite data storage (starting at 500GB/month).  Your data will be backed up every 15 minutes, encrypted and sent to the backup appliance locally at your site.  At midnight, the encrypted backup data for the day is sent offsite for safe keeping.

Where do We Start?

We will survey the amount of data on your Windows servers and the number of servers to be backed up.  This will determine the size of the backup appliance needed and the monthly cost.  We then install our backup agents on each Windows server and obtain an encrypted base image: a snapshot of each server at that time.

The base image is copied to a removable drive and shipped to our colocation site near Washington DC where it is loaded on large storage arrays.

How Does the Backup Work?

Every hour of every day, your Windows servers will backup to our BDR appliance.  At 12:00am, the appliance will remove redundant data from these hourly backup images, then ship the day’s backups to the colocation site over your Internet connection.  This data is copied to another colocation site in Colorado.  So your data will reside, fully encrypted, at three locations at all times (the local appliance, Washington and Colorado).

I Need to Restore a File I Accidentally Deleted…

No problem. Simply give us a call or open a trouble ticket and we’ll have your files or folders back within minutes, no charge.

What if I Have a Disaster?

If one of your servers fails, we can virtualize the failed server on the BDR appliance in less than 30 minutes.  The BDR will then take on the roll of the failed system, transparent to end users.  Once the failed system is operational, we can restore  all data, even if the hardware has changed.

If your main location has a disaster and all systems are inaccessible, we can ship an appliance anywhere in the US, fully loaded with your organization’s data within 48 hours.  Don’t worry, there’s no risk of the data falling into the wrong hands, it’s all AES-256 bit encrypted.

How Do I Know if There’s a Problem?

Every day, the backup chain is verified for consistency.  If there’s a problem, a trouble ticket will automatically be created within 24 hours allowing us to take immediate corrective action.  Additionally, test virtualizations are performed on a monthly basis to ensure the servers can be fully restored in the event of a disaster.  You will get monthly reports on backup activity.
